Club Captains

Congratulations to our new Club Captains, Eoin and Grace, elected at our club Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 27th March 2019.

Goodbye and Thank you

20th May 2019 was the last session for swimming teacher Matt Anderson, who due to work commitments, has had to call time on teaching. Matt has been with the club for 15 years, starting his swimming journey with learn to swim, progressing through squads, Counties, Midlands and Nationals! As an ex National swimmer, Matt has been able to share his experiences with club swimmers and inspire them through his teaching, sometimes teaching from in the pool as well as on deck. Matt has been a true family member of the club for so many years and we would like to thank him for his dedication, and to wish him all the best for the future!

- Ian, Head Coach and the club

A Reminder to Parents and Carers
Please remember as a parent/carer you are responsible for your child whilst they are at the pool. You are responsible for your child if they have a problem such as with their goggles, or become ill during the session. We appreciate that on occasion you may not be able to stay poolside. If this is the case you must ask another parent to be responsible for your child and let the child and their coach know who is looking after them.

Please also be reminded that if you need to speak with the coaches at any time, please do not come onto the poolside whilst training is in progress. This is due to the safeguarding of our swimmers. Coaches are more than happy to speak with you before training or once training has ended. Alternatively, why not email head coach
Please can you all also familiarise yourselves with our code of conduct for swimmers and parents, Codes of Conduct (available on the website). The swimming club exists for the benefit of the swimmers, to develop their skills in swimming and to instil in them a code of behaviour which will carry them forward with credit in life. To create the atmosphere necessary to achieve these objectives these codes of conduct are adopted within the club.

Time Trials

Congratulations to all who took part in May’s time trials. You can find your times on our website. There was a total of 238 new Personal Bests. Well done!

Nottingham Northern Junior Open

The 43rd Nottingham Northern Junior Open is being held this Sunday, 30th June 2019. There will be no swimming lessons on the day. If you have a swimmer entered and would like to help with the running of this event please contact one of the committee. Our Open is run completely with volunteers and cannot run without your help.

Sponsored Swim

The sponsored swim will now be held on 19/7/19 to raise funds for Backstroke Start Wedges. Nathan from Nova demonstrated these, using the Start Wedges at our training session on Friday 14/6/19. These are of great benefit to our swimmers. Sponsorship forms will be issued this week.

Swimmer of the month

You may have noticed swimmer of the month has restarted. We hope that this incentive will encourage all swimmers to try their best. All swimmer of the month trophies are to keep, you do not need to return them to us. Well done to all who have received one so far. They are:

January - Niamh Morley

February - Ryanne Laraya

March - Ben Pridmore

April - Leon Andreou

May - Brandon Dickie & Soraya Fountain

Club Summer Picnic

On Sunday 28th July we plan to have a picnic on Wollaton park to play family games and have fun. We will meet in the field next to the car park about halfway to the Hall near a tree at 1 pm. Look out for the Northern stand-up banner.

Your Club Needs You

Are you interested in helping out at the club?

The club has introduced a Teaching and Coaching Incentive Scheme to encourage more parents and swimmers to become teachers and coaches. Please see website and then discuss with Head Coach, Ian for more information. No previous experience is needed just commitment and a willingness to learn and help out:

Congratulations to Dominique, who teaches T1 and T2 groups at Northern, for achieving her Level 1 and Level 2 Teaching Swimming qualification. Well done!! We have 3 others in training for qualifications in Level 2 Teaching, Level 2 Coaching and Level 3 Coaching.

We are a competitive swimming club so expect swimmers to accept their invitation to galas when asked. We also encourage swimmers to enter Open Meets. Please look out for the dates of these throughout the season or ask Ian, Head Coach, for details.

Pool Closures

If any training sessions need to be cancelled due to any unforeseen circumstances at late notice, announcements will be issued by email, Twitter and Facebook. Please ensure the club has an up to date email address for you to receive alerts. During bad weather, please check the website as these may be cancelled at the last moment.

Contact Emails

Are you receiving emails from the club? If no one in your family is getting regular emails from us please check at the front desk that we have your correct email address. We email around important information about the club regularly and offer invites to represent the club at galas. We do not give your email address to anyone else.

Dates for your diary
As Harvey Hadden has great facilities, it is often used for swimming galas at the weekends and the pool is not available to us for our club swimming. In this case, we have moved our session to John Carroll Leisure Centre in Lenton. These are slightly shorter sessions which begin at 12 noon. Please do keep to your designated swim time (12 or 12.30) as we may not be able to accommodate your swimmer if they turn up at the wrong time. Please put these dates in your diary:
