50M TRAINING SESSIONS: Training sessions using the full 50 metre pool at Harvey Hadden are normally available every month for swimmers from the top four lanes. These sessions take place from 5-6 pm on Sundays, but Harvey Hadden have announced there will be no 50m training sessions until at least the end of 2020.
Pool Closures: If any training sessions have to be cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances, announcements will be issued by email. Please ensure the club has an up to date email address for you to ensure you receive alerts.
Teaching and Training Aims for Swimmers
Teaching Group 2 (T2)
- Push and glide supine position face in the water, with no aids
- Rotate from front and back in a floating position, in a relaxed manner
- Kicking 5M on the FRONT and BACK, using an alternating action streamline, with no aids
- Kicking 5M on FRONT, using a simultaneous action with floats
- Travelling on front for 5M with a Front Crawl action, arms coming over the top of the water with breathing
- Travelling on FRONT and BACK for 5M with a backstroke action, with arms coming over the top of the water and toes pointed
- Travelling on FRONT for 5M with a breaststroke action
- Submerge completely for 5 seconds in 0.9M of water
Teaching Group 1 (T1)
- Push and glide prone position face in the water, with no aids
- Jump into the water min depth 1.0 metres with confidence and unsupported
- Pick an object up off the pool floor with no hesitation and eye opening a depth of 1.8 metres
- Kicking on FRONT and BACK for 5m in a streamline position with face in for 10 metres, no aids
- Swim 10 metres FRONT and BACK action, arms coming over and breathing to the side every 3 pulls
- Swim 10 metres BREASTSTROKE with arms and legs in a simultaneous action breathing on every pull
- Be confident at floating on front, back, mushroom and rolling over
- Introduce a Dolphin action on front or back
- Introduce to swimming in deeper water
Junior Squad 2 (J2)
- Push and glide with good streamline position, front and back
- Pencil jump with confidence
- Sculling feet first and head first
- Kicking in a streamline position for 10 metres on front
- Kicking in a streamline position for 10 metres on back
- Introduction to Butterfly
- Swim 25 Metres Front-Crawl with bilateral breathing
- Swim 25 Metres on Backstroke, streamline position with regular breathing
- Swim 25 Metres on Breaststroke regular breathing and feet turned out
- Introduce to Tumble turns
- Head first surface dive
- Front crawl tumble turns
- Breaststroke Turns
- Treading water for 1 minute
- Swim 25 Metres on Butterfly
- Begin swimming in competition galas when 8 Years and over
- Begin extending swimming distances up to 50 and 100 metres
Junior Squad 1 (J1)
- Be proficient in all J2 skills
- Swim 50 Metres Front Crawl with bilateral breathing
- Swim 50 Metres on Backstroke, streamline position regular breathing and efficient leg action
- Swim 50 Metres on Breaststroke regular breathing and feet turned out
- Swim 50 metres on Butterfly
- Become proficient at dives, turns and finishes
- To think about what competitions you would like to enter
- Understanding rules for competitions (example, DQ)
- Represent the Club by swimming in competitive galas
- Enter Open Meets when 9 Years and over
- Begin extending swimming distances up to 200 metres
- Understand the turn around times and implement (using the clock)
- Basic understanding of the feel and the catch
Intermediate Squad 2 (I2)
- Building to distance with correct technique
- Understand the turn around times and implement (using the clock)
- Reaction times for speed
- Basic understanding of the feel and the catch
- Swimming 1100 to 1800 metres per session, up to 4 times per week
- Work on all 4 strokes for technique
- Become proficient at dives, turns and finishes
- Work on speeds and turns
- Achieve competitive starts award
- To use different training equipment to improve technique
- Pacing sets
- Stamina work
- Distances work
- Endurance sets
- Sprint sets
Intermediate Squad 1 (I1)
- Be proficient in all I2 skills
- To be confident and ambitious
- Swimming at District Level up to County standard
- To work on Speed, Strength and Stamina
- Swimming 1800 to 2400 metres per session, up to 5 times per week
- To think about what competitions you would like to enter
- Understanding rules for competitions (example, DQ)
- To work hard at advanced drills
- Keep a record of your PB times
- To know how many arm pulls it takes to swim 25 metres in each stroke.

Seniors
