Gala Selection
Saturday Night Galas
The Head Coach is responsible for the team selection for galas, and would therefore ask, that if you/your swimmer are selected to represent the club, that you make every possible effort to support this. As we are a competitive club, the fastest swimmers in each age category required for the gala are the first choice but if they are not available, another swimmer will be asked to swim. About four swimmers are needed in each age group. Age categories for galas differ. Sometimes a child will not be swimming in a race that is their best stroke. This is because the times of other children need to be considered as well when making up the best team for that age group. If you are wondering why your children is not chosen for galas then consult the swimmers page where all the Personal Bests are listed for children in their age groups. Your child can see what they need to do to get chosen for galas!
We do enter some galas where there are cut off times to allow children who are not the best in their age category to swim but we still choose the best team we can!
If you have committed to attend a gala it is very important that your child attends. Your child will be swimming in a relay team and we do NOT take any reserve swimmers!
Galas and Open Meets are what all of the training our swimmers do are geared up for, as these provide great opportunities to represent our club both on an individual and team basis. As swimmers are in a competitive environment, they often perform better and hence achieve higher results and faster times at these events.
Open Meet Galas
These are galas where the swimmer swims for themselves as individuals with others from the club being there. It is a tremendous opportunity to see if they can improve their personal bests and race swimmers of similar best times from other clubs.
They usually take up most of a Sunday or Saturday though you can opt to go for a morning or afternoon. Swimmers can enter open meet galas usually from aged 9 years. Swimmers can enter as many events as they qualify for in age or times. Look on the fixture list to see when they are. We try to email round information nearer the galas for you to look at. If you are interested in one of these galas have a word with your swimmers' coach.
